IPC Research Scholar Awards

IPC is pleased to announce a new annual research award competition. IPC Research Scholar Awards will support overseas field research by Ford School doctoral students conducting policy-relevant studies related to one or more of IPC’s focus areas of international trade, finance, and development; international security; and international human rights. The awards aim to facilitate cutting-edge scholarship and to help doctoral candidates build valuable field research experience and international partnerships.

Award Details
In 2017, IPC will offer one award of $5,000 to support summer field research outside the United States for a project related to the focus areas enumerated above. The awardee will also earn the designation of “IPC Research Scholar” for a period of one year after the date of the award. We will ask the awardee to participate actively in relevant IPC events, deliver a seminar talk on the funded research project during the 2017-18 academic year, and submit a paper for possible publication in IPC’s working paper series if practicable.

All doctoral candidates in the Ford School are eligible to apply. Funds must be used for field research expenses. These include reasonable expenses for travel, lodging, meals, local data acquisition arising from the field research, and interpretation or other necessary on-ground research assistance. IPC Research Scholar Awards will not fund conference travel or fees or data and services outside the country or territory in which field research occurs.  Preference will be given to applicants working on their doctoral dissertations. Preference also will be given to candidates who have made a demonstrated effort to leverage other sources of funding.
