Rumsfeld Foundation Fellowship

The International Policy Center (IPC) / Weiser Diplomacy Center (WDC) are typically invited to nominate one MPP or PhD candidate for the Rumsfeld Foundation Graduate Fellowship Program, which supports U.S. graduate students with plans to pursue a career in public service or a policy-relevant field. The Ford School nominee is considered for a grant of up to $20,000 including tuition and stipend support. The grant amount depends on the nominee’s demonstrated financial need. A committee of faculty and staff selects the Ford School nominee based on demonstrated intellectual ability, character, and leadership potential.

Eligibility

  • Returning MPP or PhD students;
  • U.S. citizens;
  • Preference for those students focusing on national or international security, U.S. foreign policy, and international economics.

Jonathan Garon

RUMSFELD FELLOW, 2022-2023

Jonathan Garon (MPP '23)

Jonathan graduated from the University of Rochester with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and History. In 2023 he completed an MPP degree from the Ford School of Public Policy, with a concentration in International Policy and a graduate certificate in Science, Technology, and Public Policy. Previously, Jonathan has interned with the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM), where he worked on behalf of U.S. exporters facing competition from China in advanced technology sectors, as well as in support of the Biden Administration's broader objective to finance a larger share of global infrastructure projects. Following completion of his degree, Jonathan hopes to work for the federal government to advocate U.S. foreign policy interests in areas of future technology and global economic competitiveness.
