Ford School alumnus Hardy Vieux (MPP/JD ’97) has returned for the winter 2017 semester to serve as the Harry A. and Margaret D. Towsley Foundation Policymaker in Residence.
Vieux is the legal director at Human Rights First, “an independent advocacy and action organization” that uses American influence to protect “human rights and the rule of law.”
Vieux currently manages the organization’s refugee representation work. Previously, he worked for Save the Children International on issues impacting Syrian refugee children in Amman, Jordan.
In 2016, Vieux spoke at the Ford School commencement, where he passionately encouraged graduates to “do more.” This winter, Vieux will bring that call to the classroom, where he will be teaching The Role of Non-Governmental Organizations in Policy Formation.
The undergraduate course is designed to "explore the core activities of NGOs through the lens of current policy debates, such as the global refugee crisis and the war on terror" and seeks to make students aware of "the myriad questions and nuances that beset NGOs and the array of strategies and tools available to NGOs to impact policy.”
