U.S. pressing allies to reduce dependence on Russian natural resources - Ciorciari

March 20, 2022 Republic World

John Ciorciari, director of the International Policy Center and Weiser Diplomacy Center, recently appeared on Republic World on Indian TV to discuss the United States's approach to Europe's energy reliance on Russia in light of the war in Ukraine.

"That doesn’t mean the United States isn’t trying (to get others on board). Why do you think Germany agreed to stop Nord Stream 2?" Ciorciari said. "The United States is pushing their NATO allies to reduce their dependency on Russian oil and gas, the same way it’s pressuring everyone else. It’s a logical strategy to try to multilaterize sanctions because that’s when they’re going to be effective in changing Putin’s behavior."
